Chan Kar Yik

Frontend Developer, est. 2018

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

About

I build websites and web apps, mostly in Vue and React, and I work AI-first so I can deliver them faster. I’ve worked at agencies in Kuala Lumpur, led development for clients like MSIG and Brunei’s central bank, and freelanced on everything from EV charging payments to a Next.js rebuild that lifted PageSpeed scores by 40+ points. I like pages that load fast and read easily. This one sends no JavaScript at all.

Rewrite it in Rust?

Bundlers, linters, terminals, even grep. Everything is getting rewritten in Rust.

I don't write Rust.

Give me an AI agent and a weekend.

Joking, mostly. I wrote every line by hand for seven years, then started working with AI agents in 2025. The agent brings the syntax and a second opinion. I bring the judgment: what to build, what to cut, what will break. Together we weigh more options, catch more edge cases and make better calls than I would alone. Now I’m the one at work asking, “Have you tried an agent for that?”

The agent knows Rust. I know what good software looks like.
